Become a NJ Referee!

Print

Currently in NJ there are two ways one can become a United State Soccer Federation certified referee (note - High School and NISOA/College are separate organizations). One can take a Grade 9 Recreational Referee or Grade 8 Referee Course. Grades are determined by FIFA/USSF and are completely separate from any academic grade. The description and requirements for these courses are below:

AGENDA

Please click here for attendee information for Grade 8.

This is the entry level referee course designed for those who wish to start officiating youth travel soccer games (one can do recreational games as well). Minimum age: 14 years old on the first day of the class to register for the class. The Grade 8 Youth Referee class first 2 days consists of classroom instruction.  The 3rd day begins with a classroom session on mechanics. After the field mechanics is completed, a review, a test (100 question exam is given, 75% is passing), and registration. Classes are held 8:30 AM until 4:00 PM each day. Attendees should bring lunch each day. Attendees MUST complete all portions of the 3-day course in the same class. Missing any part of the course is not permitted, and will require the attendee to repeat the course in its entirety. Emergency situations will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

NO EXCEPTIONS!

The New Jersey State Referee Committee sponsors Grade 8 Entry Level Courses. Venues and dates are selected throughout the state and posted on our website under the Becoming A Referee tab. All attendees must register using our On Line Registration (OLR) system. The OLR system requires the attendee to complete personal information and the Kids Safe form. Questions are expected to be answered truthfully. Attendees will NOT be able to complete registration without completing the Kids Safe form. Special league or team requests for a course must be addressed to the office administrator.

The total cost for the Grade 8 Entry Level Youth Referee class is $75.00 ($40.00 USSF Registration Fee and $35.00 Course Fee), and will be paid online using a VISA or MASTERCARD. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy.

Once the attendee has completed the registration process and signed up for a course, s/he has reserved a spot in that course that no one else can take. An e-mail confirming the registration will be sent. Thus, the NJSRC has a NO REFUND policy for the course fee of $35.00 (Refund Policy: $5.00 service fee if a refund is issued for a total of $35.00).

Additionally, NO WALK-INS are allowed.

To register, click on the link at the bottom of the page and simply select the class you wish to attend.
